13yo 14:0hh Pinto & 3yo 14:2hh Bay Mares for sale in Willisburg, Kentucky

We took these mares on trade for my son's boer goats, not having seen them in advance short of photos in an email. They are NOT what we were told they were. They were unloaded during sleet/snow, and were not fully evaluated, or I'd not have traded. Although I'm an experienced horse owner, I personally am not of health anymore to handle the work they will require, so they are being offered for sale.
I am listing everything I know about them, so please, read fully before asking questions or making an appointment to see them. I've only had them since Feb 13th, so not nearly long enough to know every detail.
(1) "Belle" - Red Roan & White Pinto Pony Mare, unknown breed (roaning due to sabino pattern, not a true roan) - Supposed to be 13 years old. Supposed to be gaited. She is 14:0 hands according to a height tape. She is at least 100 pounds underweight. Her feet need to be trimmed. She does not drop feed when eating. She can be hard to catch, unless you have food or peppermints. Once caught, she is patient, and will allow you to brush/comb for hours. She respects personal space, and has decent ground manners. She leads and ties. She is the lowest of the low on the dominance chain. She was supposed to be "kid broke" - but when we attempted to see how she takes a saddle, she pinned her ears and swung her butt. This is the only time I've seen any sort of attitude from her, but unfortunately, she was supposed to be for my son, and that absolutely will not work for him. Looking at her, it would seem that she's been a broodmare in her past, as her teats are elongated and saggy (but she doesn't look to have weaned a foal in the last month or two.)
(2) "Delilah" - Bay Mare with star/strip/snip and 3 white socks, unknown breed - Supposed to be 3 years old. She is 14:2 hands according to a height tape. She is in good flesh, and her hooves are in good shape. She is hard to catch, but will be in your face if she hears you rattle a candy wrapper (and likes peppermints). Once caught, she has good ground manners. She leads and ties. She also allows you to brush anywhere. She has an alpha-type personality. She was supposed to be broke, but said to need an experienced rider due to her age. However, when we attemted to see how she takes a saddle, she acted as if it was the first time she'd been saddled/bridled. When approached slowly, and with reassurance, she was saddled and bridled, but we did not fully tighten the girth (didn't ask her to try it.) I've seen no attitude from her that would show a sign of kicking/biting when handed the unknown. She's actually curious and willing when she isn't afraid. She is *very strongly* bonded to the pinto mare.
I have no idea how well they load, only that they arrived here 3 days ago in a 2 horse bumper pull trailer, and had rode an hour and a half to get here. I do NOT have a trailer, so delivery is not an option for us, you will need to arrange transport.
I am pricing them at $250 each, or if someone wants to take the pair together, we would take $400, cash.
Open to reasonable offers from experienced horse owners.
I am pricing them low, in hopes to get them moved into new home(s) where they can get the work they need, and before my son gets too attached, since the pinto mare was supposed to be his.
I'm not desperate to sell them, so I won't be giving them away...
Until they are sold, we will continue to work with them on the ground.
We would consider a trade for a trail horse - gelding or mare, 13:2-15:0 hands, age 5-15, any breed, any color, and can be absolutely as homely as it gets - provided there is NO kick/bite/rear/buck/bolt, and it truly can be saddled/ridden.
Located in Willisburg, KY (about 1/2 way between Elizabethtown and Lexington, or, about 1/2 way between Bardstown and Harrodsburg.)
